We have an exciting announcement to share! Community Action Partnership of Strafford County has been working with the Homeless Center of Strafford County to merge our organizations. On May 1st, CAPSC will take over operations of the shelter. The name will remain ‘Home for Now,’ as it is known by the community. We plan to continue the legacy of the Homeless Center of Strafford County and honor their work. The shelter will remain a 24-hour shelter for those who have nowhere else to go. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!
Would you like to get involved with Home for Now? We need your help!
Make a Donation
To ensure the shelter is fully staffed and operational, we need your support! Please consider making a donation to Home for Now, a program of Community Action Partnership of Strafford County. Your gift will help us enhance our capacity, so that we can serve all those in our community in need of shelter. Please note that your donation will be restricted specifically to Home for Now programs and operations.
Apply for a Job!
To maximize the shelter’s occupancy, we must hire several staff positions. We are hiring a Shelter Manager, Homeless Resource Advocate, and Shelter Support Staff. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please visit straffordcap.org/careers. Please share these opportunities widely within the community!
This year, CAPSC focused on collaboration and adapting in a post-pandemic world. With the end of some COVID-19 support programs, our agency focused on reaching out in our community and working with other organizations to build up Strafford County and provide support to our community members.
Some of our major accomplishments are the continued growth of the Family Resource Center, increased attention to our new website, and the work our housing program has done by establishing more relationships with land lords, and keeping more than 900 families housed.
Thank you for an amazing 2023, and looking forward to 2024!
The New Hampshire Community Action Partnership (NHCAP) was awarded a pilot demonstration grant to expand existing diaper distribution services through the robust network of anti-poverty services that the Office of Community Services (OCS) already provides through the Community Services Block Grant. Only seven states across the country received a grant in the third cohort.
The goal of the Diaper Distribution Grant helps to ensure families have the resources to meet their diaper needs. This program will allow families to learn about diaper education and will provide enough diapers to keep their children healthy. This program will be open to families in New Hampshire; the enrollment will vary by location and diaper availability.
We are so thankful to our generous partners and supporters for helping us to raise over $55,000 to support our Gift of Warmth Campaign, which raises vital funds to pay for heating or electric bills and fuel for Strafford County families during the cold winter months. Thank you!
CAPSC was honored to attend the Communities in Action: Building a Better America event at the White House. Thanks to historic legislation from the Biden/Harris Administration, CAPSC has strengthened the community and changed lives.
